ZUS Social Security Contributions Rise 8.6% Across All Entrepreneur Types
Full ZUS (Duży ZUS) contributions increased approximately 8.6% in 2026, rising from PLN 1,774 to PLN 1,927 monthly. The increase is driven by higher average wages, affecting all self-employed individuals regardless of business structure. Preferential ZUS and new rules for Mały ZUS Plus also tightened.
The annual adjustment to ZUS contribution bases, tied to projected average salaries, delivered the largest increase in several years. For entrepreneurs who cannot access relief programmes, the rise translates directly into higher monthly obligations and reduced business cash flow.
2026 ZUS Rates at a Glance
- Full ZUS (Duży ZUS, excluding health): PLN 1,926.76/month
- Full ZUS with sickness insurance (chorobowe): PLN 1,926.76/month
- Preferential ZUS (first 24 months of business): ~PLN 420–456/month depending on sickness coverage
- Mały ZUS Plus (revenue ≤120,000 PLN): Variable, but capped at max 36 months per 60-month cycle
The full contribution is calculated at 60% of the projected average monthly salary (9.76% pension, 1.5% disability, 1.67% workplace accident, 0.45% Labour Fund). Unlike PIT, ZUS rates themselves did not change, but the salary baseline rose with inflation, pushing monthly costs up across the board.
New rules also affect Mały ZUS Plus: from 2026, the relief is available for a maximum of 36 months within a rolling 60-month window (previously 24 months), and the gap required between consecutive periods dropped from 36 to 24 months—making it easier to reuse the relief but requiring careful planning.
If you are a foreigner launching a business in Poland, take full advantage of start-up relief (Ulga na Start) for the first 6 months, then switch to preferential ZUS. After 30 months, you may qualify for Mały ZUS Plus if revenue stays under PLN 120,000. File these status changes with ZUS on time to avoid overpaying. Track contribution caps: the annual ZUS contribution base ceiling is PLN 282,600 in 2026, and exceeding it has tax consequences.
