Health Insurance Contributions Rise for Q3 2026 as Average Wages Climb
The National Health Fund (NFZ) announced that voluntary health insurance contributions for July through September 2026 will total 845.67 zloty per month, up from previous quarters. The new rate reflects a 9% calculation based on Q2 average wages of 9,396.33 zloty.
What Changed
The Polish National Health Fund published new contribution rates in late July 2026 for anyone paying voluntary health insurance (dobrowolne ubezpieczenie zdrowotne) during the third quarter. The monthly payment is now 845.67 zloty, calculated as 9% of the average sector wage for April–June 2026.
Who Is Affected
This applies to self-employed individuals, contractors, and gig workers who maintain voluntary health insurance with the public system rather than through an employer. The rate is uniform across all three months (July, August, September) and is due by the 20th of the following month.
Self-employed people in Poland can choose whether to opt into public health insurance (NFZ); if they do, they must pay a monthly contribution. The calculation method differs from employee contributions, which are deducted automatically by employers.
Practical Implication for Foreigners
If you are self-employed, run a JDG (jednoosobowa działalność gospodarcza, or sole proprietorship), or hold a contract for services in Poland and want public health coverage, budget 845.67 zloty per month for Q3. Verify your payment method with your local NFZ office—payment is usually made by bank transfer or at a designated post office, and late payment incurs penalty interest. The rate may change again in October for Q4 2026.
