Newfoundland and Labrador has earmarked an additional 1,000 spaces for the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), bringing the annual quota for the NLPNP up to 2,379. The Canadian federal government approved the increase to the province's annual quota for 2026 in August.
Why This Expansion Matters
The boost provides greater capacity to respond to workforce and demographic needs of employers, particularly in rural communities throughout the province and for government itself, especially related to healthcare, education, and social support activities. As of September 10, Newfoundland and Labrador had invited 2,198 NLPNP candidates to apply for provincial nomination and 394 AIP candidates to apply for endorsement over the course of 2026.
This expansion reflects a broader 2026 trend: Canada's Provincial Nominee Program has expanded by 66 percent, rising from 55,000 spaces in 2025 to 91,500 in 2026.
