Warsaw public transport fares rise 8% from June 1, new monthly passes introduced
Warsaw's ZTM will increase ticket prices by approximately 8% starting June 1, 2026. A new unlimited monthly pass for all zones will cost 260 PLN, replacing the previous two-zone system.
Warsaw's public transport authority (ZTM) announced fare increases taking effect June 1, 2026, with single tickets rising from 4.40 PLN to 4.80 PLN and 20-minute tickets increasing from 3.40 PLN to 3.70 PLN. The changes mark the first price adjustment since January 2024 and reflect rising operational costs, according to ZTM officials.
New fare structure
- Single ticket (75 minutes, all zones): 4.80 PLN (up from 4.40 PLN)
- Short trip (20 minutes, zone 1): 3.70 PLN (up from 3.40 PLN)
- New unlimited monthly pass (all zones): 260 PLN
- Student monthly pass (all zones): 130 PLN (50% discount)
- Senior citizens (65+) and children under 7: continue to travel free
The most significant change is the introduction of a unified monthly pass covering all Warsaw zones, replacing the previous zone 1 and zone 1+2 passes. This simplifies the system for residents and visitors alike.
Impact on expats and students
For foreigners living in Warsaw, the monthly pass may offer better value if you commute daily or use public transport frequently—260 PLN works out to roughly 8.40 PLN per day over 31 days. Students with valid ISIC or Polish student cards remain eligible for the 50% discount. If you use a mobile ticketing app like Jakdojade or the official WTP app, update your payment methods before June 1 to avoid confusion. The new fares apply to all ticket types, including those purchased via app, at kiosks, or onboard.
