Visitor Visa Documentation Requirements Simplified Under New October Rules
From 8 October 2026, the UK has simplified documentation requirements for visitor visa applicants attending training or participating in Erasmus+ activities. Visitors no longer need to provide comprehensive course documentation or training letters for short-term professional development, reducing application burden for tourists and business travellers.
Reduced Paperwork for Training and Erasmus+ Participants
New permitted activities include workshops, debates, skills competitions, rehearsals and specified Erasmus+ activities for visitors. The visitor route sees two changes that reduce paperwork. Visitors attending training in the UK are no longer required to provide extensive course documentation.
Erasmus+ mobility will be accommodated across several categories including Visitor, Student and Child Student, and Government Authorised Exchange from 8 October 2026. This reflects the UK's return to the Erasmus+ student exchange and mobility programme from January 2027.
What This Means for You
If you are visiting the UK to attend a workshop, skills competition, or participate in an Erasmus+ scheme, you should find the visitor visa application process less burdensome. You no longer need to gather detailed course schedules or training provider letters for short professional development visits. This streamlining is aimed at business travellers and students on exchange programmes. However, you will still need to evidence your tie to your home country and show you intend to return after your visit. Check the latest guidance on gov.uk before submitting to confirm which activities qualify under the new rules.
