Terry Fox Documentary Premieres at TIFF This Month with Never-Before-Seen Footage
Run Terry Run, a new documentary about cancer research advocate Terry Fox, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before being released in theatres in October. The film features 96 reels of previously lost archival material.
The film is a behind-the-scenes depiction of Terry Fox's 1980 Marathon of Hope, through previously unseen footage taken in 1980 by filmmaker John Simpson, which passed into the possession of the Terry Fox Foundation but had languished in storage, and was long been believed to be lost entirely, until it was located again in the 2020s.
Run Terry Run will premiere at TIFF on Sept. 19, one day before the 46th annual Terry Fox Run. The film's musical soundtrack was performed live by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, marking the first time in Canadian history that a live orchestra has accompanied a documentary screening.
