The PiS split at the end of July following a power struggle between party founder Jarosław Kaczyński, 77, and Morawiecki, 58. Morawiecki had refused to go along with the rightward shift imposed by Kaczyński and had founded an internal party group called Development Plus together with other representatives of the economically liberal wing.
It marks the biggest split in Poland's main opposition party in more than two decades, reshaping the political landscape ahead of 2027 parliamentary elections.
