Ontario Publishes Landlord-Tenant Board Rulings; New Transparency for Renters and Investors
Ontario has made thousands of Landlord and Tenant Board decisions publicly searchable through a new Open Data Catalogue launched July 24, 2026. Tenants and landlords can now research past disputes to better understand the tribunal's rulings.
Starting July 24, 2026, Ontario's Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) began publishing final orders through the Ontario Open Data Catalogue, making tribunal decisions publicly available for the first time on a large scale. The initial release includes orders issued between January and May 2026, with historical decisions dating back to December 2021 being added in phases. New orders will be published monthly going forward.
What This Means
- Tenants can research how the LTB has ruled on disputes similar to their own—eviction notices, rent increase challenges, maintenance complaints, and illegal charges—giving them concrete evidence rather than secondhand advice.
- Landlords and property managers can review tribunal outcomes to improve compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act and better prepare for disputes.
- Real estate professionals and investors can conduct due diligence on tenant-occupied properties by checking past LTB applications and outcomes.
This transparency initiative follows a separate July 1 wave of procedural changes from Bill 60 (Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act) and Bill 97 (Helping Homebuyers, Protecting Tenants Act). Additional changes are scheduled for September 2026.
