A helicopter crashed in a field near the Rang des Écossais off Highway 10 in the municipality of Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville on Saturday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. ET, and the helicopter was on fire when first responders arrived. All four occupants on board were declared dead at the scene.
The victims have been identified as Suzanne Jutras, Gabriel Jasmin, Chantal Raymond and Loucas Perreault from Quebec. According to one victim's family member, a helicopter ride that was supposed to be a highlight of a mother's celebration turned into a tragedy.
Investigation Underway
Police said the helicopter likely encountered difficulties shortly after takeoff and crashed not far from its departure point, though they did not specify where the helicopter took off from. Police said they believe the helicopter was a private aircraft. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has deployed a team of investigators to the crash site.
As a foreigner in Canada, this tragic incident reminds you that while recreational helicopter tours are available across the country, always verify that operators maintain high safety standards and that pilots have extensive experience before booking such activities.
