Germany Ticket Price Rising to €66.80 from January 2027
The popular Deutschlandticket nationwide transit pass will increase by €3.80 per month starting next year, as operating costs outpace government subsidies.
From January 1, 2027, the price of the Germany Ticket (Deutschlandticket) will increase from €63.00 to €66.80, an increase of €3.80. Customers affected by this change will be contacted personally by email or letter at the end of October, as the price adjustment requires their active consent.
The Deutschlandticket, launched in May 2023 at €49 per month, has now seen two price increases in three years. From 2027 onward, the price will no longer be set by annual political haggling. Instead, an index tied to wages and energy costs in the public transport industry will determine the figure. Expect modest, predictable increases rather than the current cliff-edge negotiations.
What This Means for You
- Commuters: At €66.80/month (€2.23/day), the ticket remains competitive for frequent travelers but will cost €801.60 annually—a noticeable jump for budget-conscious expats
- Regional trains: The ticket covers unlimited travel on regional and local public transport nationwide (buses, trams, U-Bahns, S-Bahns) but excludes long-distance trains (ICE, IC)
- Subscription model: The new price requires your active consent via email or letter by end of October; failure to respond may result in cancellation
If you regularly use public transport across Germany for work or leisure, consider subscribing before the price increase takes effect. Expat communities relying on budget-friendly transit options should factor this 6% increase into monthly living costs.
