CDCP 2026–27 Applications Open; Those Who Missed June Deadline Can Re-Apply Now
The Canadian Dental Care Plan has reopened applications for the 2026–2027 benefit year. Eligible residents who missed the June 1 renewal deadline can apply now, though they will face a coverage gap for any dental care received after June 30.
As of August 2026, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) has opened applications for the 2026–2027 benefit year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027). This is a critical opportunity for Canadians without private dental insurance to access affordable oral health services, and it is especially relevant for newcomers and lower-income families.
Who Qualifies
The CDCP is a federal government program that provides coverage to Canadian residents who do not have access to dental benefits and have a household income of less than $90,000 per year. Families with a yearly income of less than $70,000 per year will have 100% of approved dental services covered.
Coverage Gap Alert
Any dental care received between when old coverage ended and when a new application is approved is not covered or reimbursed retroactively. Those who had 2025–2026 coverage and did not renew by June 1 should know that their coverage ended June 30. Applications for 2026–2027 are open and accepted year-round, unlike the annual renewal window. However, processing takes time, so applicants should expect a gap in coverage until their new approval letter arrives.
For Newcomers and Expats
If you are a permanent resident, protected person, or work/study permit holder without employer dental coverage, the CDCP can significantly reduce dental costs. CDCP members are saving $900 per year on their services on average. Complete your application at canada.ca/dental as soon as you have your Canadian tax file number (if you have filed taxes in Canada) and proof of income. Do not delay, as there is no backdating of coverage.
