Canada's Investment Summit Closes with $500B in New Commitments
Canada's inaugural national investment summit, held September 14–15 in Toronto, attracted global investors managing over $100 trillion in assets and closed with nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments across infrastructure, technology, and resource sectors.
The summit brought together investors from nearly 30 countries, managing more than $100 trillion in assets. The federal government closed the first Canada Investment Summit with nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments.
Three prime ministers were on hand in Toronto to mark one of the largest private sector investments in Canadian history on Monday – the opening salvo in Mark Carney's two-day summit aimed at attracting billions of dollars in capital to Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney has set an ambitious goal of attracting $1 trillion in new investment to Canada over the next five years.
Major announcements
- Bell Canada, in partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan, announced a historic expansion of the Bell AI Fabric to build a 1.2-gigawatt Canadian AI infrastructure hub in Saskatchewan.
- Investors putting $1 billion or more into the Canadian economy will now get priority access to a program that offers binding decisions from the Canada Revenue Agency through the existing Advance Income Tax Rulings (AITR) program.
For foreign investors and skilled workers considering Canada, the summit signals the government's commitment to attracting capital and creating jobs. New tax rulings clarify incentives for large-scale projects. However, this does not mean investors transferred $500 billion to Canada this week, nor does it mean $500 billion of construction is now guaranteed. Real employment and growth depend on projects actually breaking ground.
