Canada Child Benefit increases by 2%; families receive up to $8,157 per child under 6
Starting July 20, 2026, the Canada Child Benefit rose by 2% to help families with the cost of raising children. Payments increased based on inflation indexation, with families receiving more support depending on income and number of children.
What Changed
The CCB now provides families with up to $8,157 per child under the age of 6 and up to $6,883 per child aged 6 to 17. This represents an increase of up to $160 per child under age 6 and up to $135 per child aged 6 to 17.
The increase took effect on July 20, 2026. The Canada Child Benefit increased by 2% starting with the July 20, 2026 deposit, and the CRA also switched to using 2025 tax return income to calculate your payment.
How Much More Will You Get?
A family with one child aged 5 and one child aged 9 with an adjusted family net income of $65,000 will receive approximately $11,430 in 2026–27, representing nearly $400 more than they would have received in 2025–26.
The amount you receive depends on your family size, the ages of your children, and your prior-year adjusted net income. The CCB is a monthly tax-free benefit based on prior year's income and provides support for low- to middle-income families with children to help with the cost of raising children.
For newcomer families, the CCB is available to eligible permanent residents and citizens. If you've recently arrived in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number, file your taxes, and meet the income thresholds, you may be eligible. The benefit is automatically deposited monthly, helping offset childcare, food, and education costs as you settle your family into Canada.
