BC Wildfires Force Expanded Evacuation Orders as Mexican Firefighters Arrive
British Columbia faces escalating wildfire danger with the Quilpituk Creek fire doubling in size and the newly discovered Bald Range fire triggering evacuation orders across multiple regions. Mexican firefighter reinforcements have arrived to help battle the Brunswick fire complex.
British Columbia is grappling with rapidly intensifying wildfires as summer heat and dry conditions create dangerous conditions across the province. The Quilpituk Creek wildfire grew from 7.4 square kilometres to 11.4 square kilometres in a single day, triggering an expanded evacuation order for properties in Shelter Cove, Secret Point and Cinnabar Creek areas in the Central Okanagan. The Bald Range wildfire was discovered Aug. 7, 2026, and is burning west of Summerland, B.C., prompting evacuation orders.
The regional districts of Okanagan-Similkameen and Central Okanagan — as well as the District of Summerland — have issued evacuation orders and alerts. Another 100 firefighters from Mexico arrived in Abbotsford and are expected to help battle the Brunswick fire complex near Boston Bar. The B.C. Wildfire Service is expecting more fire activity with dry and warm weather ahead, and possible lightning.
Risks and Restrictions
- Silver Skagit Road is closed south of Flood Hope Road to the Canada-U.S. border because of the Hozomeen Mountain wildfire; Ross Lake Campground and Skagit Valley Provincial Park are closed.
