Poland's government approved a nationwide ban on smartphones in all primary schools, effective September 2026. The law prohibits students from using personal mobile phones during school hours, including breaks. Teachers may only allow exceptions for documented medical or educational needs. Poland joins France, which banned phones in schools in 2018, and the Netherlands, which implemented a national ban in 2024. The Polish government cited studies showing a direct link between smartphone use during school hours and declining academic performance, increased anxiety, and reduced social interaction.
